Matthew Magdzas, a U.S. Army veteran who earned a combat badge during the Iraq war, shot himself after killing himself with a gun, police said Thursday. He said he should have avoided unnecessary veterinary care and had to close his nursing service.
When he returned to Wisconsin, Magdzas had gone to the professional shooting school, which offered classes in northern Wisconsin and southern Minnesota. He served in Iraq for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Baghdad, Iraq, and spent the next two years working as an emergency medical technician in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Afghanistan. He then moved to Superior, WI, where he worked at Tower Avenue Veterinary Clinic for three years before buying the practice in 1999.
